First sign of sprouting!

by Melissa on April 9, 2010

We haven’t been able to work much on our garden this week… the pollen season here in Georgia has been on steriods this year, due to the 80 degree weather, so I haven’t been able to stay outdoors for more than 5 minutes at a time.

However those are just excuses, the real reason the garden has been on hold is thanks to this tree that is located where part of the garden will be.  Ever since we moved into the house a few months ago, I’ve been wanting to get rid of this tree – I mean, it blocks off some of the best windows in the house!  And now, it’s in the way of our future garden.

Disclaimer: We are planning on planting another tree to take its place – just farther away from the house in the backyard.

But, nothing was going to keep me from getting a head start on growing my vegetables!  I just can’t wait for the day that I can just walk outside and pick out some fresh organic veggies to cook for dinner.  So… a quick trip to the Lowes down the street and I came home with a few pots for the seeds.

This was four days ago, on Monday.

And guess what?!  My first little sprouts showed up today!  The cucumbers were the first to arrive.

They’re not much to look at yet, but it does make me feel quite happy that something is growing!  Maybe there is hope for green thumbs after all.

And here are some adorable pots that I found for our herbs.  I’m loving them!

I’m jealous. I was hoping to try to plant basil and tomatoes at least, but I don’t have a good sunny spot. Only shady north-facing. Can’t wait to see your progress.
