Mommy Brain

As the summer winds down, I feel like time has flown by. This month has been a whirlwind, though I have a feeling that most of it has been all in my mind. A more personal post for this week, complete with what I’ve been up to. I feel so bad for not posting as many recipe posts lately, but it’s tough when…

I’ve been growing two babies. No, this is not a twin annoucement.

The first, an actual baby:

As of today, I have 55 days left till my due date. That’s less than two months, folks!

One thing I wish I knew before this whole pregnancy thing is how wrapped up your mind can get in baby preparations…

- Decorating the nursery
- Picking out items for the registry
- Washing and organizing the baby clothes
- Putting together and arranging furniture
- Worrying about the delivery and the endless, sleepless nights that will soon follow
- And so on and so forth…

It’s just my (amazing) luck that consignment sale season is upon us right now. So I’ve been able to get some of our larger ticket items at great bargain prices (an infant swing for $30, an activity gym for $8), as well as a ton of baby clothes ranging from newborn to 6 month size.

It’s been pretty amazing, especially since I can’t stomach paying premium prices for baby clothes since they will likely only be worn for a month or two, if I’m lucky.

I tried to stay away from pink as much as possible, but I think I may have finally given in to the girly cuteness.

I guess it’s a good thing we’re saving money on these items since the jogging stroller that we’re planning to get is going to cost a small fortune. Gotta set those priorities straight!

The other baby that I’ve been incubating as been my new business: Swaymai - Clothing and Gear for Female Water Athletes

I have been missing scuba diving for the past few months, even more so because I’m not allowed to dive right now (the joys of being pregnant!). Now, I’m going back to my roots, as an industrial/product designer and moving into a new industry.

This is truly been a labor of love, since part of the profits will be donated to nonprofit organizations in support of ocean and marine life conservancy – causes that are near and dear to my heart.

Right now, I’m in the midst of trademarking and product development, hoping for a product line launch before Little C arrives.

How has your summer been? Can you believe that it’s almost over? Have anything planned before the fall season kicks in?

I would love to hear and live vicariously through your stories and vacations!

Thank you for all the entries in the Le Creuset stockpot giveaway with BigKitchen! I have loved reading through all of the recipe ideas, I may have to try some of them out myself. If you haven’t entered the giveaway yet, you have until 11:59pm tonight.

My summer has been great! I’ve traveled quite a bit; my most exciting trip was to Mexico. While my husband and I were there, we got a chance to see baby sea turtles being released into the ocean. It was pretty cool. Your new business venture reminded me of that. The summer has also been a time of narrowing down my photography focus. I’ve discovered that I most enjoy photographing portraits, and, more specifically, high school seniors and children (all ages) and families. I’m looking forward to spending more time in these areas in the fall. Oh, and totally unrelated…I will be starting guitar lessons next month. Can’t wait!

Wow! Sounds like you’ve had quite the amazing summer!

I’ve been wanting to see baby sea turtles make their way to the ocean for the longest time now. Hopefully we’ll be able to take a trip to the beach so that I can do that next year.

Sounds like you’ve made great progress on your photography business. It’s definitely a great idea to have a more narrow niche to specialize in. You are amazing at photographing people, so I think it’s perfect for you. I esp loved your photos of the high school senior dancers on your blog :)
