Last week, on Monday, I became a mommy!
I am so excited to start this new chapter of my life. It’s already been (just over) a week. I am sleep deprived and my days are a blur consisting of nursing, feeding myself, changing diapers, dressing a squirmy newborn, figuring out why she’s crying again, cuddling and napping whenever I can find a chance.
We have been so, so lucky that my parents have been here for a week and a half, helping out during this time when our lives have been turned upside down.
My dad has been cooking for me, making Chinese dishes that are in line with zuo yuezi, the Chinese tradition for a month of postpartum recovery. Thankfully, my parents aren’t enforcing all of the zuo yuezi rules on me, just some of the more practical ones that I will discuss in a future post.
There is just so much to talk about with our new little family member, so many stories to tell. Thus, I am excited to begin a new section on this blog: “Raising Mini-Me.” I will come up with a better name for this section, but this is what I’m going to go with for now (remember, sleep deprived over here).
This is what I have planned for the new section on the blog:
- raising a bilingual child
- homemade baby/toddler food
- … maybe some traveling with a baby in tow
The new blog post topics will stay within the spirit of “Dash of East.” Which seems like an even more appropriate name for this blog now that we have a daughter that is half-Taiwanese, a quarter Irish and a quarter Eastern European.
This will remain a food, travel and photography blog for the most part. Only now, I have my little co-pilot!
I hope you all will come along with me on this new adventure!

Thanks Averie! I’ve been sneaking some time here and there to blog – one handed on the smartphone during middle of the night feedings
